Messy Sketching for Recovering Perfectionists

Have you tried making art and suddenly froze because you wanted it to be perfect? It’s time to get messy!

VIRTUAL WORKSHOP

This playful and interactive workshop will help anyone who self-identifies as a “recovering perfectionist” to loosen up and play when drawing or painting.

Join me for a practice in getting messy and getting out of our own creative paths. Feel free to draw, paint, or use whatever medium is easy and fun for sketching… without an eraser!

What to expect

✔️ Reflection: We’ll begin with a reflection on what perfection means to you and how it helps, and hurts, your creative practice. What does the word “messy” mean to you?

✔️ Warm-up: Next we’ll do a few short sketching warm-ups together. This lets our perfectionist brains know that we are just here to practice and have fun!

✔️ Messy Sketching: Leave your erasers behind! We’ll complete a messy sketch practice together using a prompt.

✔️ Sharing: We’ll share how that went. What was challenging about it? What was fun about it?

✔️ Next steps: Last, we’ll learn a few tips for incorporating messy sketching into your creative practice and go with the flow.
